SEN Assessments provide details of the barriers and difficulties a learner is facing. They don’t provide a formal diagnosis (such as autism, or ADHD). However, they are useful in supporting those on diagnostic waiting lists. They can provide detailed information on the learning needs of a person, and the types of support and intervention that should be used.
David can provide individual needs assessments for learners aged 5 – 25 years. These can include identifying barriers to education, understanding behaviours of concern through Functional Behaviour Assessments or providing standardise testing to support an application for a EHC assessment / plan.
SEN or ‘needs’ assessments normally take place over five days, and include:
- Surveying and interviewing members of the learner’s network, including teachers, family members of others who know them well.
- Direct assessment of the learner. This will often depend on the area of concern, and may include both informal and formal assessments.
- Direct observation of the leaner in the environment (normally this would be in school).
- Reviewing current and previous reports, including progress data, clinical reports as well as any EHCP documents already in place.
- Providing a summative report, including activities completed, outcomes, recommendations and next steps. A feedback session is offered to the network to understanding and question the findings.

A five-day SEN Assessment costs £2500 (excluding fees for assessments and travel). If you are interest in discussing if a SEN assessment is right for you and your learners, please get in touch using the form below:
